Refugee Week 2017 with a Special Screening 'Cast from the storm'

An award winning documentary that tells the tender story of a group of teenage refugees who share their extraordinary stories when they join Treehouse Theatre, an after-school theatre group.

A coming of age story, this uplifting documentary share the reality of what it means to be a teenager and a displaced person. This is the story of what it means to be a teenager and a displaced person. This is the story of what comes after, and what it means to remake your home.

 


Sleepover for Stuffed Animals @ your Libraries

Wear your PJs, listen to a bedtime story, sing some songs and then tuck your teddy in for the night!

Beginner’s Crochet Workshop for Winter Season

Come along & learn a new skill for the whole winter season. We will be learning a basic Granny square and how to adapt them into a pattern. We will supply crochet hooks, scissors and patterns but you have to bring your own wool. All welcome.

 

Chasing Bushrangers - A John Cann Presentation from State Records
Friday, 14th July 2017 from 11:00am @ Muswellbrook Library

"New evidence found at State Archives relating to the inner workings of the hunt for the Frank Gardiner-Ben Hall gang after the Eugowra Rocks holdup, presentation will showcase newly uncovered original documents.

Following the talk attendees can participate in a workshop session on methods of conducting successful family history and local history research.

The Upper Hunter Shire Libraries including Scone, Aberdeen, Merriwa, Murrurundi and Cassilis branches invite you to attend one of their fun school holiday activities planned. Holiday activities are limited to school aged children unless accompanied by a carer.

Members of the community are invited to attend a book selection day to be held at the Muswellbrook Library.

Help us choose adult, teen and junior fiction and non-fiction books to be purchased for the library collection. Items selected will allocated throughout the Upper Hunter Library Network branches including Aberdeen, Cassilis, Denman, Merriwa, Murrurundi, Muswellbrook and Scone.

This event will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 4:00pm @ Muswellbrook Library.

The Upper Hunter Shire Libraries have some fun activities planned for the Spring school holidays. Contact your local branch for more details or to book your place. Bookings are essential. These branches include Aberdeen, Cassilis, Merriwa, Murrurundi and Scone Libraries.

We have some fun activities coming up at Muswellbrook and Denman Library these Spring School Holidays. All events are free and suitable for all school aged children and teens. Contact the Muswellbrook Library on 6543-1913 or the Denman Library on 6547-2208 to book a spot. Don't forget that both Muswellbrook and Denman branches have free wi-fi, gaming and computer access. Teens and children are welcome to come and enjoy the library throughout the school holidays, those under the age of 13 must be supervised by a parent or responsible adult.

Do you know someone over 55 who wants to get started using computers but isn't sure how? We will be running a Tech Savvy Seniors Program during September and October at the Muswellbrook Library. The September sessions are completely booked however limited places are available in October. These workshops run over two weeks and include four sessions. Participants are encouraged to attend all four sessions in their group.

Topics covered include Introduction to computers, introduction to the internet, introduction to email and introduction to shopping and banking online. There will also be an optional tablet workshop after the program.

For bookings or more information please call the library on 6543-1913. All computers and training materials are provided. This is a free program funded by the NSW Government, Telstra, State Library NSW and Upper Hunter Regional Library.

The Upper Hunter Regional Library Invites you to Hop Up! Wriggle Over! to the library during book week 2016 for some fun activities. This year the theme is Australia! Story Country. The Children's Book Council of Australia bringing children and books together celebrating Children's Book Week. Come dressed as your favourite character from a book and join us for stories about Australia. Enjoy some craft activities and meet new friends.

We will be hosting four sessions and would love to see you come along. Book week titles will be available to loan following book week.

When: Wednesday, August 24, 2016 @ 9:30am, 10:30am & 11:00am @ Muswellbrook Branch and 11:30am at Denman Branch.
These sessions will run for 40 minutes and include a reading of the book by Elizabeth Honey, “Hop up! Wriggle over! “Suitable for 0-5 ages. Come and play with a frolicsome family of unique Australian animals and a special visit by Bob Turner and some of his animal friends. Join in with the satisfying sounds and familiar expressions as the young ones zip, boing and bounce their way through the day. The visit by Bob Turner will immediately follow the 10:30am session and commence at around 11am.

Book clubs are lots of fun and are a great way of meeting new people and exercising those brain muscles. Whether you are an avid reader wanting to dig your teeth into something new, want to meet new people or just feel like having a good chat, the Upper Hunter Library Network has a book club for you!

Library members have free access to Find My Past and Ancestry, as well as other in house resources including Births, Deaths and Marriages, Police Gazettes and a vast array of convict information. We are also more than happy to assist with Indigenous family history inquiries.

Did you know we run FREE weekly story time sessions here at the Library? Baby Rhyme Time and Story Time sessions for older children are run regularly at the Muswellbrook, Scone, Denman, Murrurundi and Merriwa Libraries.
