OBJECTIVES:
1. To provide public access to Internet, thereby improving the quality of information available.
2. To establish and provide Guidelines for Internet use.
 
POLICY STATEMENT:
1. Library Membership is encouraged for local residents who use the Internet. They must also be registered as an Internet User.
2. As with other Library materials, the restriction on children's access to Internet is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian. Therefore, children under 16 will be required to have an Internet Consent Form signed by a parent or legal guardian before they are given access.
3. Contact must be made with Library Staff at the desk before material is printed or files downloaded.
4. Bookings may be made for periods up to two hours.
5. Misuse of the computer will result in loss of Internet privileges immediately. The Regional Library Manager and Branch Librarians, in consultation the Chief Executive Officer have this authority.
6. Staff will identify specific starting points for searchers on the Library's Home page which are appropriate to the Library's Mission and Service roles.
7. The Internet is considered part of our free Reference service. E-mail is a value added service.
8. Charges for E-mail are set out in the Library Fees and Charges Policy.
